Unwelcome Guests top 10 status!

Unwelcome Guests "Don't Go Swimming" was recently featured in a column on Popmatters.com as one of the best punk albums of 2010. We can't help but agree. This is what they had to say:

"With well-aimed tunefulness, like a U.S. teenage version of the Clean or Maximo Park, these lads deliver pop-centric fare for a guilt-ridden age. The harnessed speed of “Might Be Broken” is insistent and urgent. The theme focuses on being “broken and unemployed, depressed and a total mess,” though the vibe is neither hostile nor hollow. It reeks with hopefulness, concentrated into miles of memorable melody. They shift, too, outfitting “Wrecking Ball” with cowpunk credibility. “Considering” returns to puncturing guitar and Buzzcocks-like gusto as they desire to leave the cluttered adult world behind. Let’s join them, one song at a time."

Not too shabby! If you haven't checked out "Don't Go Swimming" you can pick it up on vinyl, cd or free download in our store HERE

Wax Phantom / Criminal Culture tracks!

KOD will soon be releasing a split 7" featuring New York's WAX PHANTOM and Tampa, Florida's CRIMINAL CULTURE. WP has members of Iron Chic, Down In The Dumps, Jonesin' and Small Arms Dealer while Criminal Culture are one of Tampa's up-and-coming bright, shining stars. I would describe the bands to you, but I don't have to because you can go listen for yourself! Both bands have the songs posted on their bandcamp sites. So go check it out and we'll have more details on the release (aka when you'll actually be able to buy it) soon!

VRGNS live at Fest 9!

As promised, I'll be posting some footage and photos from this years Fest 9 in Gainesville, Florida. It was a pretty ridiculous weekend as always and I think we all took about a month to recover from it. Orlando, Florida's VRGNS were just one of the many Kiss of Death bands that performed this year. The band recently released their new LP "Manimals" on the label, which you can pick up HERE or download it for free HERE. Since Sam is currently a new member of Fat Wreck badasses Dead to Me, VRGNS shows will be a little fewer and further between so you'll have to get your VRGNS fix via internet. Here's a video of them performing "Perfect World" and "Atheists in America" off of their debut LP "Miscarriage."

Secondly, we have three brand new releases in our webstore for you to check out!

KOD 61 - Timeshares/Captain We're Sinking Split 7"

Photobucket

Timeshares bring a lot of what one would expect from an ex-The Knockdown band to their side of the split. Tight playing, some noodling guitar riffs, some staccato ones, and an overall knack for bringing an extra catchy chorus to your ears without beating you over the head with it. They're talented dudes and they know just how to get you feeling good and singing along. On the flip side of this split, Captain We're Sinking tear through a couple of tracks of vocal driven punk. Sometimes fast, sometimes plodding and head-nodding, Captain We're Sinking have enough tricks up their sleeves to open a magic school, but their too busy writing great vocal lines that will get fused to your brain stem.

KOD 62 - Forget Me-Not Split featuring: Senders, Little League, Backpocket, Small Talk

Photobucket

This 4-way split showcases the powerful resurgence of bands influenced by the 90's emo scene. Little League's rocking mid-tempo romp brings to mind Texas is the Reason, Small Talk's noodly tendencies and sometimes cracking vocals calls to mind the Promise Ring, Senders' heaviness and sense of melody is reminiscent of Hum and Backpocket sound like an amalgamation of all three. Anyone who was a fan of emo before it was about "cutting" and haircuts will totally dig this.

KOD 63 - Teenage Softies/Stolen Parts split 7"

Photobucket

This split 7" features two new projects from the members of not-quite-totally-defunct-yet KOD alumni Monikers. Side A is a super snotty blast of female/male duel vocaled pop punk in the shape of Orlando's Teenage Softies. Side B is a more mature approach to the same idea as Brooklyn's Stolen Parts trade in their teenage angst for a more dynamic and layered approach. Depending on what kind of mood you're in, this 7" has something for everyone.

Stay tuned for tons of news in the coming weeks! We'll try to keep you entertained as you get stuck with your weirdo families during the holidays with tons of video, photos and media from Fest!
